Cognitive neuroscience research indicates that lifelong participation in creative activities can have neuro-protective effects. In 2012, the IMNF collaborated with Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections program, to give Beth Abraham residents the opportunity to compose and make music with young professionals.

Musical Connections program: The opportunity to compose and make music

"The choir revitalizes us all. It energizes me," shared a Beth Abraham resident and chorister, member of the Beth Abraham Choir, a 14-plus year tradition. Weekly practices give our singers a sense of purpose and community often helping them work through depression that may be a side-effect of an illness such as stroke. IMNF therapists deliver community programs to social service agencies, schools, and clinics throughout New York City and lower Westchester.

Music Has Power®...

… a guiding principle of The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), the nation’s first music therapy institute within the healthcare system. The IMNF is driven by more than 30 years of clinical experience in using the power of music to help people with neurological challenges.

This is a moment of opportunity

Research on music and the brain is exploding. The promise of music therapy has never been greater.

Please consider making a gift to the IMNF.  Your support will help us bring the power of music — and music therapy! — to those who need it most — in nursing homes, rehabilitation hospitals, and community centers; in schools, group homes, and private homes.
