CMTE Credits Available To Music Therapists
The 2015 IMNF Summer Institute is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT) for 12 Continuing Music Education Credits (CMTEs). The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (IMNF), #P-120 maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT policies and criteria.
The purpose of this workshop is to offer caregivers and healthcare workers that work with children with physical/psychological pain ways to use improvised music and music assisted bodily awareness and coping skills to reduce stress that might build up at an unconscious level during this very challenging work with pediatric pain management. This workshop might facilitate that you avoid risks such as burn out, vicarious traumatization or emotional/physical stress reactions.
Identify minimum 2 music relaxation and/or stress reduction techniques.
Identify minimum two ways to achieve stress reduction through vocal and instrumental improvisational techniques.
Identify 2 examples that describes how you as a caregiver of clients with physical and psychological pain can be affected by emotional/physically stress reactions.
Identify minimum 2 ways this knowledge about coping skills can be applied to your own personal and professional growth.
There are no pre-requisite necessary for this course.
Number of CMTE’S Offered
Course Schedule and Format
This is a lecture course for a duration of 7hours from 9 AM - 4pm including breaks as follows:
9.15-10.30: Welcome, self assessment of participants' levels of emotional or physical stress; self- experiential exercise with live music.
10.30-12:: Demonstrations of music psychotherapeutic interventions to acquire coping skills in relation to dealing with pediatric pain.
12-1: Lunch break.
1-2.30: Sharing and supervision on cases that are causing challenges, stress or emotional upheaval. Potential working through in music how one can help oneself to deal with issues that commonly occur in context of pediatric pain such as death, mental/physical/spiritual suffering or family member issues.
2.45- 3.45: Demonstration of videotaped examples of music-assisted pain management for health care professionals and family caregivers.
3.45-4: Time to fill out evaluation, study books/materials/CD's.

Thanks to the Each One Counts Foundation, this year's workshop is offered at no charge to participants, except for a $50 nonrefundable registration fee to hold your seat. Space is limited; we will not hold seats without full payment of the registration fee by check, money order or credit card.

Lunch is not included. Within walking distance of the venue, you will find a variety of places you can go to for lunch, or you may bring your own. Suggestions for local lodging will be provided upon request.
