How the Well-Tuned™: Music Players for Health Program Works

The Institute for Music and Neurologic Function will facilitate access to its renowned Well–Tuned program for inpatients at the CenterLight Health System. Each of the nursing homes and rehabilitation centers manages its program internally, but the programs all share a number of similarities.

Patient may provide their own MP3 player/iPod or use one of the center’s. Using their therapeutic expertise, the specialists at the IMNF create customized playlists incorporating input from patients and loved ones. These playlists are loaded onto MP3 players/iPods so patients connect with music they love, improving their quality of life. Playlists can be created for Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias, Parkinson’s disease and depression or anxiety.

Research demonstrates that patients who are connected with their favorite music often will have reduced depression and anxiety and better mood.
